Selecting a Mausoleum

Decide how many entombments the mausoleum will be built for
Discuss with family members the option of a private mausoleum. A private mausoleum can be built to accommodate a single entombment or over twenty entombments for the whole family and future generations.

Choose an appropriate cemetery
Visit Several Cemeteries to find the perfect location. Remember that not all cemeteries allow private mausoleums to be constructed. Once a cemetery is selected you must choose a suitable location within the cemetery.

Establish a budget and understand all the costs involved

1) Payable to the Cemetery
Purchasing Cemetery Property: Several cemetery plots will need to be purchased from the cemetery. Rates vary at every cemetery; figure $1,000 - $3,000 per grave. The number of graves you must purchase depends on the size of the private mausoleum.

Perpetual Care: This is a maintenance fee that the cemetery collects in order to keep the property and the surrounding area looking beautiful for future generations. Figure 10-15% of the cost of the mausoleum.

Mausoleum Foundation: A foundation must be constructed on which the mausoleum will be set. Most cemeteries will construct the mausoleum foundation themselves or Great Mausoleums can construct the foundation for you. Figure about $2,500 for a small sarcophagus and up to $10,000 for large buildings.
